Keeping a Sample Resume Simple

Applying for a new job? Then you might be agitated to write a sample resume to land on that dream job. Writing a resume seems easy, but be warned: a simple mistake can land your resume on the trash bin, undread.

A sample resume should be precise, short and informative. Most common pitfalls include having too much unnecessary information in the resume. Your reader will grow bored and stop reading, opting for a shorter and easier to read resume instead. Limit your resume to 1 to 2 pages only. Use only one font, and two at most. It is best to avoid underlined, bold or italic text all together. Keep the resume formatted for easier reading and double spaced. Use the active voice instead of the passive voice. Use words that are active and lively, such as positive, prepared, developed, pleased, monitored, etc. ‘I meet all the objectives’ is a much more lively sentence than ‘All the objectives are met’.

Don’t forget to provide the necessary contact details such as the home address, cellular number, phone number, e-mail, etc., so the employer can easily contact you for the job interview. Afterwards, include an objective statement and use simple and concise words to indicate the job you’re vying for. Include the relevant job experience you’ve had, your position, responsibilities, the time frame, company name and other important information. You can also outline your education, accomplishments and skills that you think are relevant to the job you’re applying. After finishing the sample resume, check for any spelling, grammar or typographical mistakes. Get someone to check and proofread your resume before sending it to the company.
